Zebraman (Trailer)

SHEET FILM

Year 2010: Shinichi Ichikawa (Sho Aikawa) is an anonymous school teacher, frustrated and mocked by colleagues and pupils. In addition to employment difficulties, Shinichi has to face nothing short of disastrous family situation: his wife probably cheating on him, his daughter (the idol Yui Ichikawa) is involved in a prostitution ring, while the other child is constantly bullied because and harassment by their classmates.

Shinichi passes only moments of free time locked in a room, disguised as Zebraman, the hero of his childhood, which has faithfully recreated the costume. Zebraman, in fact, is an old and unfortunate series of science fiction show (similar to the various henshin heroes, so to speak) of the 70's, closed after only 13 episodes due to lack of plays.
However, the story told in this television series is unexpectedly semidisowned prophetic not only the show is set right in the year 2010, but the star of the show, much loved by Shinichi, is an elementary school teacher just like him. Also, strange and unexplained events are shaking the city, putting in alarm the armed forces and secret services. Shinichi begins to investigate, accompanied by his new pupil, Zebraman fans as he soon discovered the unsettling reality, behind these absurd facts: the individual events do nothing but follow exactly the plot of the episodes of the series Zebraman!
The aliens, in fact, determined to conquer the land, they thought to be guided by the strategies put in place thirty years earlier in the show!
Shinichi and his little pupil are the only ones not to have forgotten that old television series, and for this reason, only they are able to face the alien menace.

The world was saved by a man child at heart. Shinichi Ichikawa is the classic middle man
Japanese, contained within that destructive and alienating family, so dear to Miike, who, giving us the story of an unlikely superhero, will continue to talk about the favorite themes, namely the Japanese family and society, its contradictions and its metamorphosis ( henshin , in fact). The man turns to his rebels and becoming a condition of existential alienation, freeing themselves forever (maybe) from the chains imposed, paradoxically recover his human side and child (who will save him and the world they belong to).

Miike's film, a mix of parody and sci-fi, will not play only a satirical depiction of contemporary Japanese society, but also an amusing homage to Japanese cinema. In addition to the typical themes of Tsukamoto (overcoming human barriers, etc.), can be traced tributes to Kiyoshi Kurosawa (one out of all, the door sealed with tape red, as in "Kairo") and an ironic quote from "Ringu" by Hideo Nakata.

Miike is a genius, not always polished, but still a genius Sho Aikawa is a fantastic actor, so rarely seen in part ... what else to say? TURN ON THE BLACK AND WHITE!

MEISTER STEINER SAYS: 7.5
